The Festival
More than 20 young lyrical singers from around the world shone as stars in the second edition of the Maskarade Opera Festival. During the weeks of the event in Santander, they immersed themselves in intense and enriching masterclasses in vocal technique and interpretation, meticulously preparing to portray the characters of Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, a masterpiece premiered in Prague in 1787. Passion and talent merged in every rehearsal, filling the spaces with music, culminating in unforgettable lyrical recitals in iconic venues such as the majestic Church of the Major Seminary of Comillas, the elegant Palacio de Elsedo in Pámanes, and the prestigious Casyc Theatre in Santander.
The inaugural lyrical gala, titled "Amor y la Muerte en la Ópera" (Love and Death in Opera)" resonated with emotion at the Palacio de Elsedo in Pámanes, while festival participants captivated the audience in two unforgettable recitals featuring scenes from Don Giovanni, accompanied on piano by Natasha Belenova. Each note and gesture conveyed the dedication and artistry of these young lyrical talents. Accompanied by the Cantabrian Symphony Orchestra (OSCAN), under the direction of Christian Frattima, the artists presented three performances of a reduced version of Mozart’s opera. The Casyc Up hall in Santander and the imposing Church of the Major Seminary of Comillas bore witness to these moving interpretations.
The culmination of the festival took place at the Casyc Theatre in Santander, where the complete version of Don Giovanni closed the event with a cast made up of the festival's master artists and selected participants. The staging, once again in collaboration with OSCAN under the direction of Christian Frattima, marked the peak of a festival filled with art, learning, and a passion for opera.
